Fair enough, I've been there and tried that sort of thing. I was unsuccessful and didn't really enjoy it.

I think the nice thing about this journey (and the fun ov mi tiping) is that there is a desire to achieve the best possible look and accuracy in the game. This means compromise as reality bites and people have differing views on this ranking. For some, not needing a pistol is the top feature (and I got shot several times trying to get mine out of my pocket - er that is the pistol) so I understand this.

For others, the ability to outrange smgs, again this saved my bacon several times.

In conclusion, I will buy more guns to cover all options

Well, as usual, I've come in on this one late. I have, however, read every word and post of this thread.

From my side, I've never intentionally gone out to hurt someone in an airsoft game so I've also never intentionally engaged with the Tanaka at what I would consider an unsafe distance - let's leave that one hanging for now.

This whole "boohoo nasty gas rifle Germans" thing is winding me right up though. I have no problem with the MED rule/gentleman's agreement/back of fag packet thing (quite apart from the fact I don't have a pistol, can't afford one while I save up for a motorbike, and don't like using one in WW2 games anyway). What I do have a problem with is people whining that we're all evil and want to perforate you. Yes, I get a thrill from hitting someone and watching their hands fly in the air when they feel the hit. Anyone who's played with me knows how I jump about an swear after getting hit at any range and power.

Anyone who wants to use the 350fps rifles they're all designing and lathing as we speak, feel free. Anyone who doesn't (like me), will be happy enough to keep their distance while unloading from their personal death-giving-ion-blood-gusher-cannon. Of that I have no doubt.

Remember when we used to sit about the fire talking about how WW2 airsoft was a proper man's game? This very thing cocked me right off at the Gulch game - even though EVERY ONE of the Tanaka users I saw was keeping their distance.

If the pistol thing is going to be a rule, you can count me out - or buy me a gun, K haters.

By that I mean if one was required if using a rifle over 500fps. As I stated, MEN distance is fine, I usually run away anyway... :ghey:

I genuinely thought it was mandatory to carry a pistol with a sniper rifle over 350fps.

Its definitely a rule at several sites and i was sure both PBI and CIA have stated it in briefings in the past?

Not as far as I'd ever heard, Gareth. I'm happy to be proven wrong. I won't be happy to have to sell all my German kit as a consequence, though.

Probably have to jack it in totally, as the U.S. side is normally booked out faster than you can say 'screaming eagle' for most games.

LOL, that's daft! Of course you don't HAVE to carry a pistol. The intention is that for SAFETY you MUST carry a pistol IF you use a +350fps AND you want to engage under MED. It would be very open day if you carried a Tanaka with an MP40 on your back after all plus airsofters do like to keep shooting. But as players did on Sunday, you might chose any number of alternatives including not engaging, withdrawing to +MED, calling for assistance, grenadeing or just taking cover and hope the threat goes away!

Come on chaps - common sense please!

I would have thought that both common sense and the #1 CiA rule would mean that anyone over 350fps would carry a sidearm, if not out of courtesy for their fellow players. I'd rather call myself out than shoot someone with my rifle under the MED.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

Same. That's all I'm saying.

Daft or not Dave i'm pretty sure its the site rules on more than one site.

I'm also pretty sure its been stated in PBI and CIA safety briefs in the past that if you're carrying a rifle you have to carry a side arm.

As I said - you don't HAVE to carry a pistol - and I have given the reasons.

"If you have a +350fps rifle you have to carry a side arm" is just shorthand - in other words, IF you want to engage below MED then you need another weapon. If you think it looks silly wearing pistol then don't - you will have to find alternatives methods of offense or defence.

Really, its impossible to fully expand on every rule. The rule intention is clear and obvious and common sense. As I'm sure you know, unless there is more stirring going on?

After reading all the posts I get the general impression safty comes first and I agree with guys having a pistol if they have a weapon that requires an engagement range! however I'm not interested in making guys go out and have to spend even more money on kit. Hard one this!! but then Im dealing with large numbers, some Ive never met before and have no idea what their game will be like. (no probs as yet touch wood)

Sites also have site rules that are different to organiser rules that have and use their own insurance and only run events (not weekend skirmish as well).

I think PBI and CIA have such fantastic dynamics and do offer different experiences that theres room in both churches to have a similar basic rules set and extra rules for the experience they offer. The coolest thing about both groups is they are a family of mates that all trust and look out for each other, this allows them both to offer something a bit more than just airsoft.
I'm so gutted I still haven't had a game yet with either group (work and family has to come first)!

One thing that is posative about both groups is their willingness to experiment in uncharted waters.

The key thing about this thread is the passion all parties have in what is still cutting edge airsoft.

sorry for spelling and grammer
